At Shimbi Labs, we champion and support several issues and causes that affect our environment and living beings, such as Clean Water Education, Environment, Freedom of Expression, Food for all, Gender Gap, LGBTQ, Mental Health, and Privacy.
In June, we focused on LGBTQ; in this month, we will focus on privacy.
For us, the privacy of your data — and it is your data, not ours! — is a big deal to us. We promise we never sell your data: never have, never will.
Customer is not a product! (Our Product Philosophy)
At Shimbi Labs, your trust means everything to us. That is why we don't sell our customer's data collected on our websites, nor we sell third-party advertisements to our customers when they use our products.
We are committed to providing you pure product experience! Customer is not a product for us. We don't sell your information to others; we sell our amazing products to you.
We think the internet needs to know less about us, not more. Just because it's possible to track someone doesn't mean we should. There's tremendous value to be found by analyzing data, but only if we are responsible in how we use it.
We are firmly against collecting unnecessary data from our customers, and those are the ethos we're trying to live at Shimbi Labs. It's not an easy path. It will take time, and sometimes we may lose some benefits, but worth protecting our customer's privacy who trust us.
So we said goodbye to Google Analytics. We took one more step towards user privacy protection.
We recently deleted inactive accounts across all our apps. This was the answer to a question we asked ourselves last year: what should we do about accounts that weren't upgraded but weren't used either? Should we keep hold of their data forever?
Now celebrating fewer accounts but protecting the privacy of users.
As a company, we strive to respect user privacy the same way we'd like in every service we personally use.
Here are few things that we do relating to privacy:
- We use encryption for all communications between Shimbi Labs website, blog, and all our products and your browser.
- We encrypt our backend services as much as is practical.
- When you cancel your product subscription, we delete your account and all your data.
- We purge log data and database backups after 30 days.
But I think our privacy philosophy is better defined by the things that we don't do.
We don't access customer accounts unless they ask.
At Shimbi Labs, we don't access customer accounts unless they ask. We will see a customer's account only if they grant explicit permission to do so as part of a support ticket. We log and audit all such access.
We don't look at identifiable user data.
We analyze usage patterns to make Shimbi Labs products better, but we never look at identifiable data. Any data that we use for analysis is stripped of all customer identification data.
We don't share customer data.
We strongly believe that it's your data and not ours, so we shouldn't be sharing it.
We'll only provide customer data to law enforcement agencies in response to court orders. Unless expressly prohibited from doing so, we'll always inform the customer of the request.
It should go without saying, but we don't sell customer lists or any other data to anyone.
We don't send customer data to third-party services.
As much as possible we avoid using third-party services that require any customer data to pass through them. In case we have no option but to use some third-party service, in those cases, we use available encryption options to prevent the platform provider from having access to the underlying customer data.
Finally, we wish to assure you that we don't want to do anything that feels creepy or doesn't want to do with our data.
We know that you're putting your trust in us when you use our products or services; we want to do everything we can to honor and live up to that trust.
